David Ben Gurion, Israel's first prime minister, told a Zionist Conference in 1937 that any proposed Jewish state would have to "transfer Arab populations out of the area, if possible of their own free will, if not by coercion."[8]Report of the Congress of the World Council of Paole Zion, Zurich, July 29-August 7, 1937, pp. 73-74.

We were told not to try to speak to Ben Gurion, but when I saw him, I asked why, since Israel is a democracy with a parliament, does it not have a constitution? Ben Gurion said, "Look, boy"-I was 24 at the time-"if we have a constitution, we have to write in it the border of our country. And this is not our border, my dear." I asked, "Then where is the border?" He said, "Wherever the Sahal will come, this is the border." Sahal is the Israeli army.
Dear Alan,

It is brilliant of you to give an account of the truth of history by means of the perpetrators’ own words.

I will make sure that as many people as possible, within my own circle of acquaintances, read this summary of Zionism’s history – especially my Jewish friends, so they can hear Israel’s founders’ voices from the graves that still cast their long and fateful shadows unto the ravaged Land of Palestine.

Most people I know, believe that the creation of Israel was "planned as a result" of the atrocities of the Jewish Holocaust: They do not know that the Zionist colonial project was conceived many decades ahead of World War II.

The images that are inevitably conjured-up when talking about the creation of Israel, are the ships packed with Jewish Holocaust survivors arriving in Palestine: The Land most people believe to be the Jewish survivors’ preferred and chosen destination.

What most people seem to forget, though, is that before arriving in Palestine, many a ship had previously been denied access to the Countries that were the Jewish refugees’ first choice, meaning America and Europe, where the Jewish survivors had their social and cultural roots - as you so appropriately point out - and where many had friends and relatives.

So I wonder, Alan, is there anywhere, in your many articles, an account of those failed attempts to reach the American and European shores, meaning about the ordeal the Jewish refugees were forced to go through, before being deliberately diverted and lured to the Land of Palestine? I am not completely in the picture myself.

Any such account of the truth would be very useful to me, I could add it as a supplement to the above article, to be forwarded to my friends.

Thank you for your engagement in telling the world the truth it so desperately needs.

Dear Paul,

Thanks for stopping by and adding your response.

I have started to address the issues you raised in a new post which is headlined Israel/Palestine - Is there a "workable and realistic" way forward? And I will follow this up with a further piece which will be headlined Israel: Winning in the region, losing in the world.

Regards

I am interested in your comments and sympathise with many of them. You give an interesting if unfashionable insight into Zionism, the attitude of politicians, non-Israeli Jews etc. to the issue at hand.

But in practical terms, I am still unclear about what you want to see happen next that is actually workable and realistic. I am unclear as to precisely what you are driving at. Could you explain or point me at an article that you may have written on this?

For example, do you agree with the Iranian, Hamas, Hizbollah positions that Israel should cease to exist? Perhaps they are right. What do you think?

I look forward to your comments.

Regards
