These trolls constantly circle the web and blogosphere like demented buzzards ready to pounce on all critics of Zionism, when the word is given, squawking “anti-Semitism!”, “anti-Semitism!” in an attempt to guilt-trip anti-war liberals into silence.

While the military hawks walk the the walk, the squawks talk the talk–covering the backs of the military with a noisy campaign of spin and character assassination. The fact that you think you can credibly speculate about Israelis dressing up in Arab garb and kidnapping/killing a foreign journalist reveals much about your own worldview – a perplexing worldview that de facto sees more wrong in the actions of the Israeli people, than that of the Palestinian…so much so, that it becomes more reasonable to believe a Western nation kidnapped/killed a journalist instead of a Palestinian group (or collection of groups) that has made a living kidnapping & killing journalists.

I suspect that your leanings are socialist and you view Middle Eastern conflict through the lens of class structure and economics. To me this is the central problem with the European view of the Middle East: this idea that lack of job opportunities breeds despair and terrorism. There is some truth to that idea, but that doesn’t begin to account for the whole issue.

The problem here is that Western Liberals really cannot understand the mind of an Islamic fundamentalist. To a Western Liberal, there are no ideas worth dying for. Why do you think your British sailors cowered on Iranian television, even thanking the Iranian President for his “forgiveness”? It’s because we in the Western world aren’t interested in dying for concepts or ideas that to us are nothing more than subjective realities: freedom comes at the behest of your government (I am not born free, I am contractually made free), duty is that which does not conflict with my pleasure and honour is a mere popularity contest played out upon the stage of the world’s media outlets.

The Western Liberal lives in a 21st century world applying their worldview to a region and people that have yet to even really discover nationalism – a 19th century Western ideal! Islamic fundamentalism is the result of a clash of cultures and the economic conditions in the Middle East only serve to further enflame that clash of cultures.

An entire book could be written on what you choose to ignore – the history of kidnappings, the long history of journalist intimidation by the Palestinian Authority, etc.

As another commenter pointed out, looking at, “Who Benefits” just does not work. Let’s take the example of a murder. A murder kills and then ends up in court and then jail for the rest of his life. Meanwhile the policeman who arrests the murder is given a promotion. By your logic all murders are done by the police.

The reality, dear sir, is that the Palestinians kidnapped a journalists and killed him. You’re going to have to learn to deal with that reality instead of blaming it on Israel to fit your political views.
