Anyone who believes the Palestinians are a lost cause, doesn’t know the Palestinians. After generations of persecution they are the most resilient, resourceful and determined people on earth, and what’s more they know their cause is just. Not only just, but historically and morally right. To date (since 1967) Israel has killed 10,000 of them, including over 2,300 children since 2000AD alone, and four this year so far. Far from giving up they find new ways of normality every day, strengthen their resistance to savage military occupation and take the aditional blows in their stride. Unfortunately, at the moment with a Zionist-fanatical US president and Saudi Arabia cosying up to Israel, things look bad, but the justice clock is ticking on Netanyahu and his family and the boot-lickers like India will see they’ve backed the wrong
horse.

I think that the Israeli+Palestinian conflict is essential to end, it harms plenty of people, but I can see how little is helping it to end at the moment. There are things in the world which people are truly disturbed by and plenty of news about that, but even then I can always find more trivial stories in the news in which people are being blamed by the media for small things. It is very hard for anybody to please anyone else at all, and I find it hard to imagine people can get on well together over big things when even small things can’t be negotiated easily a lot of the time. Maybe if people can sort out smaller disputes better, bigger conflicts have more of a chance of being sorted out.

I find your comment that it would ‘of course’ be in the interests of the Palestinians if a peace were imposed in which they agreed to accept only 22% of Palestine curious.

It’s possible that may be the case — but surely it isn’t obvious? Two more attractive possibilities come to mind.

The first is to insist that Israel honor what are still her only legal borders — those set forth by the UN in 1947. Here, it’s worth pointing out that Israel herself accepted these borders, so Israel can hardly object. This solution — or rather, this compliance with the declaration that established Israel in the first place — would allot approximately 45% of Palestine to the Palestinians. The borders are already laid out and everything. Obviously, that would be preferable to 22%.

The second is to allow the Zionist state to complete its visible process of self-immolation. Why rush to agree to 22% — or even 45%? Help Israel destroy itself and wind up with 100%.

The Palestinian resistance is still alive despite the heavy odds against them and betrayals from certain Palestinian leaders. The Palestinian resistance has allies in Hezbollah and Iran.

Dear Alan, I am an Israeli citizen. I am very much aligned with your views. They help me to assess my understanding of this erratic Zionist mess.
I assume that the 2nd option is the more probable: i.e. Israel refusing to let go of the 1967 loot, further intensifies the persecution of the Palestinians and escalates its aggression towards the final showdown, that is to execute the thorough ethnic cleansing of Palestinians as it had been planning for many decades. All this will likely lead to a nuclear holocaust, locally and perhaps also beyond.

I have chosen to remain in Israel even if the replay of the Masada syndrome shall drown us all; I wish to witness the boat sinking.
So, Alan, till then please stay online.

An excellent insightful piece, but I would not give up on us if I were you Mr Hart. Most of what you wrote is true but one fact is missing. We Palestinians have proven time and time again that we don’t do surrender or defeat no matter what the sacrifices are. The Arab Regimes and their masters in Washington and Tel Aviv (including the PA) might seek ‘PRAGMATIC’ solutions with the Zionist Entity but we, the Palestinian Nation’ will never ever give up or accept any solution short of total liberation of our lands and full restoration of our rights.
The USA is a different issue all together. Many Americans are waking up to the fact that they are occupied too and that we, ARABS/Muslims don’t pose a real threat to their country or way of life. Zionism, both Christian and Jewish, is the real threat to them and they now know this and are starting to question the ‘special relationship’ that is costing them dearly.
No Mr Hart, please don’t close your file on Palestine. The Zionists will never prevail. We, Palestinians, will make sure of that.
