In 2008, with no pressure on him other than to get votes, he gave away illegally annexed east Jerusalem. He did this at a vote grabbing meeting with AIPAC (Israel lobby group) when he said that Jerusalem should be the capital of Israel and be undivided. This was not in the speech given out beforehand but in the speech he gave AIPAC. I presume this was a ploy in that the Zionists would get to know but those not present would probably just read the pre-meeting handout, not what he actually said.
