Dr. Toaff is uniquely qualified to write this book, being thoroughly familiar with the derivative literature in English, French, German and Italian, as well as the original documentary sources in Latin, Medieval Italian, Hebrew and Yiddish. This is not something he worked on in secret. On the contrary, he worked on it openly with his university students and colleagues in Israel for several years; one of his students was even going to publish a paper on the subject. The author is extremely careful about what he says, and his conclusions must be taken seriously. It reads like a detective story.

If it had been published in Israel, in Hebrew, no one would have cared. There are large bodies of literature in Hebrew that Jews do not wish Gentiles to know about. But Dr. Toaff’s announcement of its publication in Italy, in Italian, raised a worldwide firestorm of fury. Under unbearable pressure, the book was withdrawn from publication, and is not to be re-issued.

As for David Ward, the really shocking thing is that the Liberal Democrats have caved to Zionist pressure. What do they have on Nick Clegg and every other top Lib Dem? Have they all been caught in a honey-trap, photographed with a 12 year old?

Second, Jews in Germany were exterminated simply for being Jews. To the extent that Palestinians are suffering from “oppression,” it must be taken into account that the situation came about owing to violence against Israel by Arab League countries in collusion with The Palestinians. The Arab League countries in fact threatened the extermination of all Jews in Palestine on several occasions. There is a vast difference in motivations that renders the Holocaust comparison quite evil.

Third, whatever deprivations the Palestinians are undergoing, it is neither extermination nor anything like it. Palestinians according to the UN Human Rights Index have a standard of living comparable to and usually exceeding that of neighbouring non-oil Arab states. (This might not apply to the poor individuals kept in refugee camps, but Israel is not responsible for that.)

For these reasons I find that Ward’s invocation of the Holocaust is unacceptable. Alan claims that Zionism has, “used and abused the obscenity of the Nazi holocaust.” If that is the case, is it acceptable for Ward to do the same thing?
