Is Peace (in Israel-Palestine) Possible?
But I also have to say that I empathise completely with the unspeakable but real fear of very many if not all the Jews of the world. It is fear of Holocaust II, another great turning against Jews….. It’s my view, which I know is shared in private by others, that if the monster of anti-Semitism does go on the rampage again, it could start its journey in America. And that’s why, when I speak there, I’ll be saying the following to Americans:
- DON’T blame the Jews who live among you for Zionism’s crimes.
- DON’T even blame the Zionist lobby for buying influence on American foreign policy because it, the lobby, has only played the game according to the rules.
- DO blame your corrupt, pork-barrel system of politics which puts what passes for democracy up for sale to the highest bidders.
It’s because of their unspeakable fear of the future that very many Jews, if only sub-consciously, have a vision of Israel as their refuge of last resort. And that’s a main reason (not the only reason) why, to date, most of the Jews of the world have remained silent on the matter of the Zionist state’s behaviour. They are frightened of saying or doing anything that could compromise their insurance policy.
It follows, or so it seems to the Gentile me, that it’s unreasonable to expect the Jews of the world in substantial numbers to play their necessary part in calling Zionism to account unless and until they receive the maximum possible in the way of reassurance about their wellbeing and security in the many lands of the mainly Gentile world of which they are citizens. Put another way, they have to be convinced that they don’t have need of the Zionist state of Israel as an insurance policy. And that’s why I call in my book for a NEW COVENANT, not between the Jews and their God, but between the Jews and the Gentiles.
As a verbal footnote, I’ll add this. Arabs and other Muslims have always known the difference between Judaism and Zionism. And it can be said that throughout much of their history, Arabs and other Muslims were the best protectors of Jews. It was Zionism’s colonial enterprise that poisoned the relationship, but not to the point at which most Arabs and other Muslims blame all Jews for Zionism’s crimes.
I want to conclude with the last words of my book. They have pride of place on the back jacket of Volume Two. But first I must give you a health warning – I mean a warning about my health, not yours! Seven years ago I had a stroke. I lost my speech and was paralysed on my left side. Fortunately I had a superb consultant who told me that I’d got three weeks to drive the neurons in my brain to make a reconnection. So far as I am aware, the only permanent damage is to the transmission nerves in the left side of my face. When I am moved they sometimes can’t handle my emotions; and when they can’t, my face contorts a bit and my tears flow. I hope that won’t happen as I read the end paragraph of my book, but if it does, you’ll understand.
“If the Jews of the world can summon up the will and the courage to make common cause with the forces of reason in Israel before it is too late for us all, a very great prize awaits them. By demonstrating that right can triumph over might, and that there is a place for morality in politics, they WOULD become the light unto nations. It is a prize available to no other people on earth because of the uniqueness of the suffering of the Jewish people. Perhaps that is the real point of the idea of the Jews as Chosen People…. Chosen to endure unique suffering and, having endured it, to show the rest of us that creating a better and more just world is not a mission impossible.”

Thanks for your comment.
I can’t say that entering the world of blogs has been an eye-opening experience. I mean that I knew, as you know, that there are a lot of very sick people out there, especially among those who defend the Zionist state of Israel right or wrong and vilify and defame its critics, be they Jewish, Muslim or, like me, Gentile. (I don’t know if there’s a proper term to describe those non-Israeli Jews who support Israel right or wrong, vilify and defame its critics and, into the bargain, hate Gentiles; but there ought to be).
The Prologue to Volume One of my book, Zionism, The Real Enemy of the Jews, ends (well nearly) with a most revealing comment made to me by (then retired) Major General Shlomo Gazit. He was for 20 years the Head of Research at Israel’s Directorate of Military Intelligence. After the Yom Kippur War of 1973, he was prevailed upon by Israel’s leaders to become Director of Military Intelligence, to re-organise the agency so there could never again be an intelligence failure as there was in the countdown to that war.
Over coffee one morning in early 1980 (and as revealed in the Prologue to Volume One of my book), I made the following comment to Shlomo: “I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s all a myth. Israel’s existence has never, ever been in danger.”
Through a sad smile he replied: “The trouble with us Israelis is that we’ve become the victims of our own propaganda.”
I venture to suggest that the trouble with most if not all non-Israeli Jews who defend Israel right or wrong and vilify and defame its critics, is that they are the victims of the same, Zionist, propaganda. As I say to my readers in Volume Two of my book, (actually when I was writing about Israel’s 1967 war of aggression), there were times, when writing, when I wanted to “cry out” with the pain of knowing how much Israeli Jews and Jews everywhere have been deceived by Zionist propaganda.
In the coming day or two or three (soon anyway), I’m going to post/publish the comments which tell of the sickness (former President Jimmy Carter for one will be very familiar with them); and then I’m going to issue a challenge to those who have accused me of, charged me with, anti-Semitism.I’m going to ask them to come out of hiding and identity themselves properly and fully, and then, if they dare, to repeat their accusations and charges. I’ll also tell them, in my challenge, that if they do, I will demand an apology and a retraction and will sue if I don’t get both.
Of course it won’t happen. They won’t come out of hiding.
My stance on reacting to false and malicious charges of anti-Semitism is not a new one. When I sent (at his request) proof copies of both volumes of Zionism, The Real Enemy of the Jewsto Henry Grunwald QC, President of The Board of Deputies of British Jews, I put him and it on notice that I would sue if I was accused of, or charged with, anti-Semitism.
I have already dipped a toe into these waters. There is on this blog a video of a presentation I made in Manchesterlast November, subject Palestine, The End or a New Beginning? The Jewish Telegraph’sreport of the event implied that I was a “neo-Nazi”. I put its editor on notice that I was ready, willing and able to sue. In the end I settled for a public retraction, an equal length rebuttal article and a payment towards my legal costs.
In reality, heavyweight, hardcore Zionists know that I am the oppositeof anti-Semitic, and that by falsely and maliciously accusing me of being anti-Semitic they would make themselves look very foolish and would end up in court (or would have to settle out of court). So they deal with me by pretending that I and my book do not exist. And they have done, and are doing, their best to limit its distribution, to suppress to the maximum extent possible the informed and honest debate the book was written to assist.
In Zionism, The Real Enemy of the Jews, as on most public platforms, I tell of my friendship on the human level with Golda Meir, Mother Israel. I have a picture of her inscribed in her own hand “To a good friend, Alan Hart.” It is the first picture, full-page, in Volume One of my book. Sometimes when I feel the need to make a point, I hold up this picture and say: “Do you think this old lady was so stupid that she could not have seen through me if I was anti-Jew!?“
Vilification by sick supporters of Israel right or wrong does not make me angry. I just feel very, very sorry for them. I also have the comfort of knowing that I occupy the moral high ground. How so? Stripped down to its absolute essence, Zionism, The Real Enemy of the Jewsis the call of a concerned and caring goy, me, for the Jews to become the light unto nations, not least because the rest of us need them to be. Also, on every public platform on which I speak, I am passionate in my explanation of why it is wrong to blame all Jews for what a minority of hardcore Zionists have done and are doing in Palestine that became Israel and the U.S.
I insisted on the title of my book because it reflects in seven words two related truths for our time. The first is that the sleeping giant of classical anti-Semitism has been re-awakened. The second is that a prime cause of the re-awakening is the behaviour of Zionism’s self-righteous and aggressive child, Israel. Behaviour which in my view qualifies Israel to described, sometimes if not always, as a terrorist state.
My bottom-line is the belief that, as things are, and if Zionism is allowed to go on having its way, there might well be, at a point in the future, another great turning against Jews in the mainly Gentile Judeo-Christian world. I am doing my bit to try to prevent that happening by explaining, within the context of the truth of history, why it is wrong to blame all Jews for the crimes of a few.
In my own time I hope to write a short article in which I will suggest the need for an Internet Protocol. It would require every individual who comments on the work of others to identify themselves fully. If they had to do that, they could be called to account when they defame others.
