The Book they Don’t Want You to Read

I’ve been asked if there is a one-page summary of my two-volume book. There is, in the form of an author statement. Here it is.

The “they” of the headline above are governments and awesomely powerful vested interests – military, economic, political and mainstream media. They have no interest in the truth about how the Palestine problem was created and why a peaceful resolution of it has remained, and seems set to remain, beyond the reach of diplomacy. And they would prefer you to remain ignorant of it.

The “you” of the headline above are the citizens of nations, peoples of all faiths and none, who are concerned by events in the Middle East and their global fall-out – 9/11 in America, terrorist bombs in Madrid and London and so on.

In my view the prerequisite for peace in the Middle East is understanding.

Gentile and Arab/Moslem understanding of the real fear of the Jews and the reasons for it.

Gentile and Jewish understanding of Arab/Moslem anger and humiliation and the reasons for it.

Understanding by all of the difference between Judaism and Zionism, and thus why it is perfectly possible to be anti-Zionist without being anti-Semitic (anti-Jew).

This epic work in two volumes, the product of my search for the truth which makes understanding possible, claimed more than five years of my life and draws off nearly four decades of experience, which included, uniquely, intimate access to the two greatest opposites in all of human history – Golda Meir, Mother Israel, and Yasser Arafat, Father Palestine.

The book is epic in length as well as sweep and substance because, in order to tell the truth and reveal the difference between Judaism and Zionism, I’ve had to re-write the entire history of the conflict, replacing Zionist mythology with events as they actually happened. And I’ve given the events their necessary global context, to show how all the pieces of the most complex and complicated jig-saw puzzle fit together. This is why what happened behind closed doors in London, Paris, Washington and Moscow has its place in the book well as events in Palestine that became Israel and the capitals of the Arab world.

The story this book tells is thrilling and chilling but ultimately inspirational. My hope is that it will contribute to the understanding needed if the very last chance for peace is to be grasped.
