Hart of the Matter #2: Professor Ilan Pappe (1)
Last week, in the first programme of this series, viewers were invited to get to know me and how it was that I became aware of the difference between the lies and truth of history as it relates to the making and sustaining of conflict in and over Palestine.
My first guest is an Israeli who now lives in reluctant exile here in the UK. He is – Professor Ilan Pappe.
Professor Ilan Pappe is Israel’s leading “new” or “revisionist” historian. The terms new and revisionist really mean “honest”. The title of his latest book, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, says everything about his integrity and commitment to the truth of history. As well as his passion for justice.
One of very many revelations in Ilan’s latest book is in the form of a statement made by David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s founding father, in a letter to his son. It was written in 1937. “The Arabs will have to go”, Ben-Gurion wrote, “but one needs an opportune moment for making it happen, such as war.”
Like all Israelis, Ilan was brought up, conditioned, to believe Zionism’s version of the history of the making and sustaining of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It wasn’t until he went to England to continue his academic studies that he had access to documentation which enabled him to understand that Zionism’s version is a propaganda lie.
For his books and his public speaking, Ilan is respected and admired by many people around the world with the exception, of course, of supporters of Israel right or wrong and Zionists in particular.

Hello Alan,
I bought your book (volume 1) in 2005 and found it very interesting with a lot of new (to me) information. An eye opener really. (Couldn’t find Volume 2!)
I am an Arab and I consider Professor Ilan Pappe a HERO of the Middle East. Pity there are only a few people of his caliber in the zionist colony…
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to view this excellent video series “Hart of the Matter”, I had not seen it when it was first aired on TV.
I look forward, for the next few evenings, to enjoy the rest of the series.
Palestine, the Middle East and the World need people like yourself and Ilan Pappe to spread the seed of peace and harmony by telling the “Truth of History”.

I’ll second Al Masri’s comments while adding that though I’m not an Arab, I’m a Muslim born and raised in India but whose home since the past decade and a half is the US. For me people like Professor Pappe, John Pilger, Baroness Tonge, Lord Parekh and, sadly, just a few others, who dare to speak the TRUTH. are the heroes of our world.
After all, PEACE can be achieved only through JUSTICE which in turn is based solely on TRUTH. Alan, your good work and that of your eminent guests – the task of seeking and speaking the TRUTH – is highly appreciated.

It is time, infact, way beyond time, that the USA must have the”guts” to stop supporting Isreal without question.
The US supports Isreal in every way, including the strong military that Isreal has. I predect that Isreal will start a war with Iran that the United States will need to be involved.
I support a Jewish State, but I do not support the way they taken away the Palistine Citezen lad and killed so many.
Young men of Palistine have sent rockets, many being home made, and that somehow gives the right for Isreal to bring tanks and aircraft over the border to kill thousands of young children, women and men. The Army is paid for by the United States and we turn our backs.

I’m impressed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy that I found this in my hunt for something regarding this.
